This was bought for my 4.5 year old daughter for Christmas. She opened it, was very excited about it and by the time my wife was done opening it up and getting the pieces out, she had lost interest.
To this day she hasn’t touched the Littlest Pet Shop toys.
My 10 month old son likes them, but they have pieces too small for him and so he can’t play with them.
Beyond the “Oh, look how cute” factor, there’s not much to this toy.

I got these for my then 2 year old daughter last xmas. She thought they were OK and I will see her occasionally still play with some of them (although not by themselves, usually as pets for her Polly pockets or Barbies). I paid far far less for this set last year through Amazon then what they are marked at now. They are much to expensive for what you get at their current listed price. Each of these little guys is maybe an inch or so tall and for ten plastic pieces the pack should only break down to be a dollar or two a piece for each toy at most. Decent toy, way over priced.

My 6- year old daughter loves to have the pets be actual “pets” for her other dolls, so it increases her imaginative play because she’ll have them go to the vet, play in the park, etc… I’ve even heard her “doll” teaching the bird to talk.
With the 10 pack variety, she is still coming up with new stories to play out.
